A Letter to Myself - Exhibited at Am I Okay? Exhibition
“A Letter to Myself” is a deeply personal zine by Fanny, the artist behind mitoboru.club,
created as a heartfelt tribute to her late father who lost his life to depression when she was
sixteen. For years, Fanny carried the quiet weight of guilt — questioning why she couldn’t
save him, and why he had to leave so suddenly. It wasn’t until she experienced her own
battle with depression that she began to understand the invisible pain he must have faced.
Through tender words and gentle illustrations, “A Letter to Myself” becomes both a
conversation with her younger self and a message to her father — one that speaks of
sorrow, empathy, and forgiveness. It captures the emotional journey of someone learning to accept that love sometimes isn’t enough to save another, and that healing often begins with compassion for oneself.
This zine is not only a remembrance but also an act of reconciliation — an attempt to
transform grief into understanding. By sharing this vulnerable story, Fanny hopes to remind others that those struggling with depression are not weak or heartless, but deeply human.
Ultimately, “A Letter to Myself” is about finding light in the aftermath of loss — a quiet
promise to keep living, to keep feeling, and to hold space for both pain and love to coexist.
